Green Policy

VOLKTEK strives to keep the environment healthier for better living.

The concept of "sustainable development" is the most significant challenge facing businesses and societies in the 21st century. VOLKTEK Corporation aims to participate in this crucial fight against pollution by taking proactive measures to address all the relevant environmental, economic and social issues. VOLKTEK has set in place several policies and procedures to reduce, re-use and recycle materials which could potentially become waste. At VOLKTEK's head office, all (100%) waste paper is systematically collected and given to a recycling company. The head office also participates in a shredding and recycling program sponsored by the City Government. VOLKTEK believes that saving even a single tree can make a difference and is committed to saving as much virgin forest as possible from destruction.

VOLKTEK has dedicated an area within its warehouse and manufacturing facility to handle the task of preparing used cardboard and Styrofoam packaging materials for recycling. These materials are usually from incoming shipments of components and are crushed by machinery prior to being submitted for recycling. Wooden pallets that are left over after incoming shipments are unpacked, are all re-used for outgoing shipments. Any incoming materials that are rejected for quality reasons, are returned to the supplier(s).

VOLKTEK complies with the European RoHS directive (Restriction on the use of certain Hazardous Substances in electrical and electronic equipment) and has recently suspended the use of lead, mercury and substances that may cause negative endocrine effects. The company also expands the scope of chemical-substance control at the component level.

Action Plan

1. Promote reduction of environmental burdens and ensure safety by:
        a. Implementation through corporate activities and operations;
        b. Implementation throughout lifecycle of products; and
        c. Consideration of economical and social effects.
2. Enhance chemical-substance control to lower contamination risks.
3. Comply with laws and regulations as well as respective voluntary regulations, standards and requirements agreed to by the manufacturing community.
4. Strengthen partnerships with partner companies and cooperate with regulatory agencies and industrial organizations, and proactively participate in local community activities.
5. Increase employees' environmental awareness through education in order to address environmental challenges.
6. Work harder to move towards a paperless office environment by using paper as little as possible.

VOLKTEK's Green Policy has been extremely effective in eliminating waste. The Green Policy has reduced overall costs and, most importantly, it continues to contribute to a cleaner and healthier environment for better living.
