Solution:
VOLKTEK's IRF-631 Media Converter was chosen as the perfect device for the job because it is part of VOLKTEK's Industrial Ethernet Solutions range (industrial-grade ruggedness and reliability) and can link RS-232 cable to fiber-optic cable. The NXF-719 Standalone Media Converter Chassis was used to organize the dozens of converters that converged next to the control room.
Background:
A casino in the south of America recently saw the need for real-time management of their slot machines. The management wanted a highly reliable solution that could bridge the large distances between the machines and their control room.
Setting it up:
A slot machine's RS-232 cable has a maximum transmission distance of only 15m, so this cable was simply plugged into an IRF-631 media converter, which connected to a high-speed, high-bandwidth, long-distance fiber-optic cable (fiber-optic cable has transmission distances of up to 120km!). At the control room, the fiber cable was simply slotted into another IRF-631 (standalone or slotted into an NXF-719 chassis) that connected to the last RS-232 segment as it terminated in the computer's multiple I/O interface.
