Ethernet Loop Detection This function will detect when a loop condition is present in the network and disable the relevant port in order to prevent broadcast storms. The problem can then be addressed by the administrator and the blocked port restored.
Abnormal Traffic Detection In order to defend against certain types of spam or flooding attacks, the switch will detect suspicious levels of traffic coming through any port, and can be set to automatically disable any offending port permanently (i.e. until an administrator manually resets) or temporarily (essentially quarantining the port for a set amount of time).
Port Isolation This function enables a port to be isolated so that it cannot communicate with other ports on the same VLAN - useful in order to have different households or offices sharing a single uplink.
Cable Tester Normally in the event of a cable failure the maintenance staff have no indication as to where the cable has failed - the VOLKTEK cable tester is a software-based system which allows the administrator to check via the GUI and receive a figure (in meters) away from the port where the failure lies.
Host Denial of Service This function enables only certain IP addresses to manage the switch - preventing unauthorized access by inadvertent or malicious parties.
Management VLAN
A powerful function which opens management of the switch only to devices on a certain VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network), ensuring both a high level of security and flexibility.
